The Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), Ola Awakan, on Friday received H.E. Félix Costales Artieda, Ambassador of Spain to Nigeria, in a high-level meeting aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation through tourism.
The closed-door discussion focused on positioning tourism as a key catalyst for trade, investment, and cultural exchange between the two nations. Both leaders explored practical ways to strengthen structured travel and tourism exchanges, with emphasis on leveraging seasonality opportunities, improving market access, and ensuring sustainable sector growth.
Discussions also highlighted enhanced engagement with the tourism trade, better diplomatic coordination, and forward-looking collaboration, particularly in preparation for Spain’s flagship FITUR Madrid 2027 international tourism fair.
Awakan reaffirmed NTDA’s commitment to building strategic partnerships that drive sustainable tourism development, expand market access, and deliver mutual economic benefits for Nigeria and its international partners.
The meeting underscores Nigeria’s renewed push to diversify its economy through tourism while fostering deeper people-to-people and business ties with Spain.
