In a powerful boost to cultural tourism, Lagos State reinforced its position as Africa’s premier hub for global dialogue as the 3-Day exhibition Coinbhirse/Convergence: Reflections on the Connectedness between Ireland and Nigeria opened on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Exhibition Gallery of the National Museum, Onikan.
Curated by renowned Aduke Gomez, the exhibition masterfully weaves historical, cultural, and social threads between the two nations through compelling art, artefacts, and immersive storytelling—creating a vibrant platform that celebrates shared heritage and cross-cultural exchange.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, was represented by Permanent Secretary Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, affirming the state’s commitment to using arts and culture as drivers of tourism growth. Ireland’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Peter Ryan, joined other dignitaries, diplomats, and culture stakeholders at the grand opening.
This convergence underscores Lagos’ enduring role as a global meeting point for cultures and ideas. Arts and culture stand as vital bridges between nations, illuminating shared humanity while enriching the tourism landscape through meaningful international partnerships.
Open to the public, the exhibition runs through its three-day span at the National Museum, Onikan, offering residents and visitors a unique opportunity to explore these enriching connections.
Lagos continues to set the stage as a dynamic destination where culture fuels tourism and fosters lasting global bonds.
