Nigeria Advances Global Showcase with National Economic, Cultural and Tourism Compendium

The Federal Government of Nigeria has thrown its full weight behind a landmark national compendium aimed at documenting and projecting the country’s immense economic, cultural, and tourism opportunities to the world.

Titled “Nigeria: Documenting the Economic and Tourism Profiles of the 36 States and the FCT,” the publication is being developed by the Nigeria Press Council (NPC) in collaboration with key agencies including the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) and the Ministry of Art, Culture and Creative Economy. It offers detailed, state-by-state profiles covering investment opportunities, tax incentives, mineral resources, infrastructure, cultural heritage sites, tourism destinations, and business incentives.

Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima pledged presidential endorsement and support during a February 2026 courtesy visit by an NPC delegation led by Executive Secretary Dr. Dili Ezughah. He described the initiative as a strategic tool to “sell Nigeria to the world,” comparing it to high-quality compendiums found in international airports and embassies. Shettima promised to engage state governors for nationwide buy-in, stressing that sub-nationals hold the key to unlocking the country’s full potential.

Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris recently reaffirmed government commitment, noting that the compendium aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for economic diversification beyond oil. He highlighted its role in countering negative narratives by presenting credible data on Nigeria’s rich cultural assets, tourism sites, and investment prospects.

Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa, underscored the project’s significance for tourism and the creative economy, describing it as a structured platform to boost visibility for Nigeria’s heritage sites, creative hubs, and tourism destinations, thereby attracting foreign investment and fostering sustainable growth.

The official launch is scheduled for June 17, 2026, at the Presidential Villa, with President Tinubu expected to write the foreword and Vice President Shettima contributing the preface. The high-profile event will bring together governors, diplomats, investors, and stakeholders. NTDA Director-General Dr. Ola Awakan has hailed it as a major step toward reshaping global perceptions of Nigeria’s tourism potential.

Lead consultants describe the compendium as a comprehensive national reference guide for investors, development partners, diplomats, and the Nigerian diaspora. By presenting a unified, positive narrative of Nigeria’s opportunities, the Federal Government aims to position tourism and culture as key pillars of economic transformation and global competitiveness.

This initiative marks a bold and coordinated effort to harness Nigeria’s diverse endowments for national development and international engagement.
