NTDA, the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority, made a strong showing at the spectacular Ilorin Emirate Grand Durbar 2026, held on May 28 at the Kwara Baseball Park in Adewole, Ilorin. The event, one of Northern Nigeria’s most iconic cultural spectacles, drew thousands with its majestic horse processions, vibrant traditional displays, and rich expressions of unity.

Led by Director General Dr. Olayiwola Ola Awakan, the NTDA delegation included Mr. Olufemi Akinyele, Director of Marketing and Promotions, Mr. Patrick Aba, North Central Zonal Coordinator, and other key officials. They joined high-profile dignitaries, including the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to celebrate this enduring festival.

The 2026 edition, themed “Prosperity in Diversity”, beautifully captured Ilorin’s multicultural heritage — blending Yoruba, Fulani, Nupe, and other traditions through colorful cavalry displays, traditional music, dance performances, and tributes to royalty. This annual post-Eid al-Adha celebration highlighted pride, communal harmony, and the living spirit of Nigerian tradition in motion.

Dr. Awakan commended the Emir, the Kwara State Government, sponsors, and stakeholders for sustaining this noble cultural initiative, which continues to boost tourism, foster national unity, and showcase Nigeria’s soft power. The NTDA’s active participation underscores its commitment to promoting domestic festivals as vital drivers of economic growth and cultural preservation.

In a country blessed with diverse heritage, events like the Ilorin Durbar remind us of tourism’s power to unite, inspire, and propel development. The NTDA’s presence signals a renewed push to position such festivals on the global stage.
