Lagos Advances Global Tourism Ambitions at Prestigious THEA Awards Conference in Orlando

In a strategic move to elevate Lagos as a world-class cultural and tourism powerhouse, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, participated in the 32nd Annual THEA Awards Conference on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the JW Marriott Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

Accompanied by Mr. Seun Oduwole, Project Contractor and Design Architect of the iconic J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, the Commissioner engaged with global leaders in themed entertainment, immersive experiences, and cultural attractions. Organized by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), the conference is a premier platform celebrating innovation and excellence in creating unforgettable visitor experiences.

Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka underscored Lagos State’s unwavering commitment to transforming its rich cultural assets into internationally competitive tourism products. She highlighted how insights from the event will refine the delivery of world-class, immersive experiences at the J. Randle Centre.

“Lagos is not only preserving its rich cultural heritage but also reimagining how it is presented to a global audience in a compelling, immersive, and economically sustainable way,” she stated.

As a flagship tourism initiative of the Lagos State Government, the J. Randle Centre in Onikan stands as a dynamic hub for Yoruba heritage—featuring interactive exhibitions, performance spaces, educational programs, and storytelling that connect locals and international visitors to Nigeria’s vibrant roots.

This high-level participation reinforces Lagos’ drive to blend authentic African culture with cutting-edge global standards, positioning the state as a must-visit destination on the international tourism map.
