Nigerian Hospitality Takes a Bold Step Forward: NIHOTOUR & RABON Forge Strategic Partnership

The Nigeria Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (NIHOTOUR) has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Restaurants and Bar Operators of Nigeria (RABON), marking a significant milestone in the professionalisation and growth of Nigeria’s vibrant hospitality sector.

This landmark collaboration aims to strengthen professionalism, standardise operations, enhance capacity building, and promote robust certification and licensing frameworks across the country’s restaurant, bar, and pub value chain. By uniting NIHOTOUR’s regulatory expertise with RABON’s deep industry reach, the partnership seeks to elevate service standards, ensure compliance with global best practices, and foster a more skilled, regulated, and competitive hospitality workforce capable of driving sustainable economic growth.

NIHOTOUR, the apex federal institution mandated to train, certify, and regulate professionals in hospitality, travel, and tourism, brings decades of experience and legal authority under the NIHOTOUR Act 2022. RABON, representing restaurant, bar, and related operators nationwide, provides grassroots insight into the operational realities and challenges faced by food and beverage businesses. Together, they are poised to address critical gaps in skills development, quality assurance, and industry governance.

The MoU is expected to deliver targeted training programmes, standardised operational guidelines, joint certification initiatives, and licensing support tailored to the unique needs of Nigeria’s dynamic dining and entertainment sub-sector. Stakeholders anticipate improved service delivery, greater consumer confidence, enhanced safety and hygiene standards, and increased potential for job creation and tourism integration.

This partnership reflects a broader national push to harness the hospitality industry’s immense potential as a key driver of economic diversification, youth employment, and cultural promotion. As Nigeria positions itself as an emerging tourism powerhouse, such collaborations are vital for building a world-class hospitality ecosystem that can compete on the global stage.

The signing of this MoU signals a new era of synergy between public institutions and private operators — one that promises to transform Nigeria’s restaurant and bar industry into a more structured, professional, and globally respected sector.
