FG Moves to Reform Tourism Laws, Boost Investor Confidence in Nigeria’s Tourism Industry

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to reposition Nigeria’s tourism industry by overhauling the sector’s legal and regulatory framework, a move aimed at creating greater certainty for investors and accelerating sustainable growth across the tourism value chain.

Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, disclosed that the ongoing reforms are focused on establishing clear standards, strengthening governance structures, and enhancing professionalism within the industry. According to the Minister, the initiative is designed to provide a predictable regulatory environment capable of attracting both local and foreign investments into Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality sectors.

Musawa noted that the government is committed to aligning the sector with international best practices through improved regulation, certification, and compliance mechanisms. The reforms build on recent efforts to implement the NIHOTOUR Act and other regulatory measures aimed at standardising operations, improving service quality, and fostering investor confidence.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the development, describing a clear and transparent regulatory framework as essential for unlocking tourism’s economic potential, creating jobs, and positioning Nigeria as a globally competitive destination. The Federal Government maintains that a well-regulated tourism sector will play a significant role in economic diversification while showcasing the nation’s rich cultural and heritage assets to the world.
